Public Reading Place for street children

Ria and Mickey are two enthusiastic students from La Salle University in Bacolod and they volunteered to ANAK. They took the initiative to develop a library accessible for the children of the neighbouring slums. The so called Public Reading Place (PRP) opened its doors to street children and other institutions such as orphanages in February 2009.

Every day during the week, children are very welcome to visit the PRP. The children are age five to twelve years old and usually hang around the ANAK office. They are very curious of what is happening inside. Every Saturday special activities are organised for these kids such as reading, story telling, drawing and painting and so on. ANAK scholars are also volunteering in the PRP and it is in our intention to motivate and stimulate these children to stay in school or return to school.
