Jaag de armen de stad uit! |

Het lijkt wel beleid, steeds meer wil men af van de stad ontsierende sloppenwijken. In de plaats van komen nieuwe gebouwen en grote malls. De armen krijgen een relocation area aangewezen aan de buitenkant van de stad, ver van inkomens genererende mogelijkheden. Zo ook dreigt voor vele scholars van ANAK een verhuizing....
Naast het kantoor van ANAK ligt een krottenwijk waar veel van onze scholars vandaan komen. Inmiddels is het een 'demolition area' geworden. We lopen vanaf de straat een 100 meter lange gang door. Als we weer in het zonlicht komen zien we een vlakte van 150 bij 300 meter vol met puin. Het puin is het restant van de woningen van zo'n 65 arme families: meer dan 400 personen...Zij kregen drie maanden geleden opdracht van de grondeigenaar, de tussen het puin en de straat gelegen " Boston Financial cooperation Bank", om op te krassen, De huisjes waren onrechtmatig gebouwd en de bank wordt uitgebreid.

The story of Jofrey Paura is an inspiration to others.
As a primary school pupil he had to get up for school at 4:30 am. Jofrey had to walk to school as he could not afford the jeepney fare.
Despite poverty he succeeded in graduating from high school which made his parents very proud. After graduation life becomes tougher....

I immediately feel at home again in the Philippines. On January the 18th I returned to the Philippines. It was a fairly cool (24 degrees C) and cloudy day. After settling into my favorite hotel in the Mabini area, I immerse myself into the chaos of Manila. A brewed coffee and the Philippine Star on a little terrace............ |

Skills training students start own business |

In december 2009 the first batch of students Cell Phone Repair completed their course. Last January three of them have started their own business: J.A.M. Cell Phone Repair Shop. Within three days 32 cell phones were brought in for repair! The slills training has been a proven success. More boys and girls are very willing to enroll in this short term vocational course. In the Philippines traveling by plane is like taking a bus in Holland. Very reasonable airfares, several flights a day and good cared for by the crew of airlines like Cebu Pacific. I feel like a prince on aircon clouds.....

The ANAK webshop was launched in December 2009. Just before Christmas. People were able to buy unique Christmas cards made by our own talented scholar Gil John Cadivida.
